Engineers have identified new burial space in the north of the island to ease the overburden at the Choc cemetery.
Saint Lucian families can expect more and better burial space in 2015 as Government moves to address the shortage of room at cemeteries island-wide.
Recently, central and local government councils across the island came together to find an alternative to the overcrowded cemeteries.
So far, planners and engineers have already identified new burial space in the north of the island to ease the overburden at the Choc cemetery. To conserve tomb space at Choc, the Castries City Council (CCC) has had to assign multiple coffins to the same grave.
In other parts of the island, new land has also been acquired for the cemetery in Micoud south, while another eight acres will be acquired from Invest St. Lucia to extend the La Tourney Cemetery in Vieux Fort.
The Riviere Doree cemetery will also be extended.
